Italo Sabatini est un peintre né à Nice en 1865. Ses parents sont italiens. En 1918 il est connu comme président de la Société Italienne de Bienfaisance d’Antibes. Il devient un des proches de Thornley et de son élève, Félix Robin, au travers de la fédération des artistes de la Côte d’Azur à laquelle il adhère aussi.
Ce tableau est probablement réalisé sur place, à Antibes, lors d’un des derniers séjours du peintre dans le Midi, alors que la santé de William Thornley décline.

Italo Sabatini was a painter born in Nice in 1865. His parents were Italian. In 1918, he was known as president of the Italian Benevolent Society of Antibes. He became close to Thornley and his student, Félix Robin, through the Federation of Artists of the French Riviera, which he also joined. This painting was probably made on site, in Antibes, during one of the painter’s last stays in the South of France, while William Thornley’s health was declining.
