William Thornley a réalisé cette lithographie d’après une huile sur toile de Camille Pissarro (35x28cm) réalisée, un jour de neige, lors de son second séjour à Paris en 1897 dans le quartier Saint-Lazare. Parmi les 146 tableaux exécutés par Camille Pissarro en milieu urbain, cette œuvre est l’un des cinq tableaux peints à Paris, à proximité de la Gare Saint-Lazare.
Cette huile a été acquise le 3 février 1897 par le Galeriste Durand-Ruel. Il détenait encore le tableau en 1928 (Voir le vol III du catalogue raisonné du Wildenstein Institute -Joachim Pissarro et Claire Durand-Ruel Snollaerts, page 726 – réf 1154- La rue Saint-Lazare, brume.)
