Ce visuel (Photo : Catherine Brossais) a déjà fait l’objet d’une publication le 22 juillet 2022 sur le site Facebook de la Ville d’Osny.
Ce paysage du Vexin rappelle étonnamment la « Vue sur Pontoise », un tableau (59x73cm) fait des années plus tôt, en 1884, par son ami Camille Pissarro. Les deux artistes ont utilisé quasiment le même cadrage de type photographique, avec un arbre en sujet principal sur la gauche. Celui peint par Thornley, « où l’arbre au premier plan est du plus pur Thornley » (*), à la silhouette bien découpée, attire irrésistiblement le regard en priorité, avant que ce dernier se perde ensuite seulement vers l’horizon.

This landscape of Vexin is surprisingly reminiscent of the “View of Pontoise”, a painting (59x73cm) made years earlier, in 1884, by his friend Camille Pissarro. The two artists used almost the same photographic type framing, with a tree as the main subject on the left. The one painted by Thornley, « where the tree in the foreground is of the purest Thornley » (*), with its well-defined silhouette, irresistibly attracts the eye first, before the latter is then lost only towards the horizon.
