Cette aquarelle de William Thornley n’est hélas, comme c‘est souvent le cas, ni datée ni localisée. Le style de l’œuvre et le format de la signature permettent cependant de la situer après 1900. William Thornley utilise l’arbre à gauche au premier plan comme élément de cadrage principal, « où, pour reprendre à l’identique un commentaire fait dans un article du Progrès de Seine-et-Oise du 28 juin 1919 à propos d’une autre œuvre, « l’arbre au premier plan est du plus pur Thornley »
Les teintes dominantes utilisées pour cette aquarelle, sont partagées entre des nuances d’ocres et de verts. Cette villa d’exception, avec son élégant escalier en fer à cheval bordé de végétaux, en constitue l’objet principal. Deux silhouettes humaines anonymes, l’une au balcon et l’autre s’éloignant dans le parc, apportent un peu de vie à cette composition.

This watercolor by William Thornley is unfortunately, as is often the case, neither dated nor located. The style of the work and the format of the signature allow it to be dated after 1900. William Thornley uses the tree in the left foreground as the main framing element, « where, to echo a comment made in an article in Le Progrès de Seine-et-Oise on June 28, 1919, about another work, ‘the tree in the foreground is pure Thornley.' »
The dominant colors used for this watercolor are divided between shades of ochre and green. This exceptional villa, with its elegant horseshoe staircase lined with plants, constitutes the main object. Two anonymous human silhouettes, one on the balcony and the other moving away in the park, bring a little life to this composition.
