Cette lithographie de William Thornley a été réalisée d’après une peinture à l’huile de Claude Monet (65,5x81cm) alors qu’il était en séjour à Belle-Île-en mer en 1886 (Bretagne, Morbihan). Cette Toile a été acquise en 1961, grâce aux fonds Nathan Emory, par le musée américain Des Moines Art Center dans l’Iowa. Elle s’intitule « Rocher du Lion – rochers à Belle-Île« .

This lithograph by William Thornley was produced after an oil painting by Claude Monet (65.5x81cm) while he was staying at Belle-Île-en-Mer in 1886 (Brittany, Morbihan). This painting was acquired in 1961, thanks to the Nathan Emory funds, by the American museum Des Moines Art Center in Iowa. It is entitled « Lion Rock – rocks at Belle-Île ».
It is listed 1090, on page 200 of the volume Claude Monet: Biography and catalogue raisonné, Volume II: 1882-1886, Paintings by Daniel Wildenstein.
