En 1881, William Thornley réalise (chez Fabré) deux recueils de 25 lithographies en couleur, d’après Boucher (1703-1770), premier peintre du Roi Louis XV puis de Madame de Pompadour. Chaque recueil est vendu au prix de 50 Francs, soit approximativement entre 190 et 200 de nos €uros actuels. Cette représentation « d’Amours volants aux deux crayons » où « les chairs rayonnent dans la clarté irréelle d’un décor d’opéra » (*), fait partie du premier de ces deux recueils.

In 1881, William Thornley produced (with Fabré) two collections of 25 colour lithographs, after Boucher (1703-1770), first painter to King Louis XV and then to Madame de Pompadour. Each collection was sold at the price of 50 Francs, or approximately between 190 and 200 of our current €uros. This performance of « Amours volants aux deux crayons » in which « the flesh shines in the unreal clarity of an opera set » (*), is part of the first of these two collections.
