A l’instar de Gilles Demarteau (1722-1776), illustre graveur wallon originaire de Liège, William Thornley reproduit ici une œuvre de François Boucher. L’œuvre de Gilles Demarteau dont un exemplaire (H, 22,4cm x L, 16,9cm) fait partie des collections du musée du Louvre, s’intitule Femme lisant Eloyse et Abailar. Ref inventaire : 19374LR.

One of the 25 lithographs from the first collection made by William Thornley in 1882, from models by François Boucher (1703-1770). According to the manner of the three pencils (black stone, red chalk and white chalk). Like Gilles Demarteau (1722-1776), an illustrious Walloon engraver from Liège, William Thornley reproduces here a work by François Boucher.
The work of Gilles Demarteau, a copy of which (H, 22.4cm x W, 16.9cm) is part of the collections of the Louvre Museum, is entitled Femme lisant Eloyse et Abailar. Inventory ref: 19374LR.
