Ce peintre, qui fut l’élève d’un peintre paysagiste français, Jacques Adrien Sauzay (1841-1928) , et de Fernand Cormon (1845-1924) exposa au Salon des artistes français de 1889, 1890, 1901 et 1908. Il fut nommé chevalier de la Légion d’honneur en 1916.
Il réalisa des natures mortes en Bretagne ainsi qu’à Osny, dans le Val d’Oise, où il vécut les trente dernières années de sa vie (il décéda à Osny en 1933, deux années avant la mort de William Thornley).
Les toiles qu’il réalisa durant les années qu’il passa à Osny constituent un précieux bagage artistique. Elles témoignent de la vie de ses habitants et décrivent avec finesse de magnifiques paysages qui séduisirent également, aux mêmes endroits, des années auparavant, Camille Pissarro (1830-1903), Paul Cézanne son élève (1839-1906), puis, par la suite, Albert Huyot (1872-1968) un élève d’Henri Matisse (1859-1964), sans oublier évidemment « le peintre d’Osny » William Thornley (1857-1935).
Il est intéressant de noter que ce peintre a habité à côté de William Thornley à Osny comme en témoigne le recensement des habitants de cette Commune en 1911 (Victor Le Baube y apparait comme artiste peintre avec sa femme et ses deux enfants au « Village », numéro 78, alors que Thornley et son élève « dessinateur » Félix Robin habitent le 73 et le 74)
Une exposition en l’honneur de Victor Le Baube est organisée au Musée Thornley à Osny du 11 septembre au 13 octobre 2024.
This painter, who was a student of a French landscape painter, Jacques Adrien Sauzay (1841-1928), and of Fernand Cormon (1845-1924) exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in 1889, 1890, 1901 and 1908. He was named Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1916.
He produced still lifes in Brittany as well as in Osny, in Val d’Oise, where he lived the last thirty years of his life (he died in Osny in 1933, two years before the death of William Thornley).
The paintings he created during the years he spent in Osny constitute valuable artistic knowledge. They bear witness to the life of its inhabitants and describe with finesse magnificent landscapes which also seduced, in the same places, years before, Camille Pissarro (1830-1903), Paul Cézanne his student (1839-1906), then, subsequently , Albert Huyot (1872-1968) a student of Henri Matisse (1859-1964), without obviously forgetting “the painter from Osny” William Thornley (1857-1935).
It is interesting to note that this painter lived next to William Thornley in Osny as evidenced by the census of the inhabitants of this Commune in 1911 (Victor Le Baube appears there as a painter with his wife and two children in the « Village », number 78, while Thornley and his student “designer” Félix Robin live at 73 and 74)
An exhibition in honor of Victor Le Baube is organized at the Thornley Museum in Osny from September 11 to October 13, 2024.
